So my question is 'If amalgam fillings are bought into the practice in sealed containers, and are collected from the building in sealed containers labelled 'hazardous waste', then why is it o.k. for dentists to readily place amalgam patients in their patients? There is tonnes of evidence both for and against the use of amalgam fillings. I believe that if we cannot prove that amalgam fillings are 100% safe then we should not be using them. As a great alternative to amalgam fillings we have invested heavily in a new technology called CEREC, New Teeth While You Wait. The drive of our system is the safe removal of old, failing amalgams. Then replacement with a long lasting, hard wearing, beautiful tooth coloured ceramic restorations called CEREC (where silver fillings are small, it maybe preferable to use white fillings). Please call us now on 01883 622222 or request an appointment online How do we replace amalgam fillings? We do this by placing a special rubber sheet over the teeth to isolate them from the rest of your mouth to prevent you swallowing the amalgam residue. Mercury is at it's most dangerous when it is vapourised, so when we remove them we use plenty of water to cool the amalgam and prevent vapourisation, plus any sludge, water and vapour is 'hoovered' up with a super efficient suction kit. Once you are free of the amalgam, we can scan your tooth with the CEREC camera, and design you a non-toxic, hard wearing, tooth looking ceramic restoration in about ONE hour!
